To those applying for federal jobs:
Make sure that when you fill out applications online that you are careful
to check your application for mistakes. I just spent half an hour on the
phone trying to rectify a mistake I submitted. Because of this, I probably
won't even be considered for a job that I am qualified for. Don't mean to
scare you, but heads up when filling out online applications - once the
computer sorts you out, it is almost impossible to override it.

We have been getting a lot of inquiries from wannabies and newbies
asking how to get a firefighting job next summer. You must be 36 years old
or younger to get into the fire world and make it a career. (It will likely
take several years of temp employment to get your foot in the door for the
permanent position. That's the one with the MEA, Maximum Entry Age, of 37.)
To find a job, go here: www.fs.fed.us/fsjobs,
www.nc.blm.gov/jobs/ or www.nps.gov/fire/jobs
Follow the directions for applying for a temporary fire job. Send in your
applications. Choose places where you would like to work (lots of fire) or
be willing to work. Do not put 99 (for location on the FS app). Send in hard
copy with electronic copy if electronic is a possibility.
The NATIONAL vacancy announcement for ALL temporary fire positions does not
expire until 11/30/2003.
We'll be updating info on the hiring process with ASAP when we get it
mid-December.
Good luck.
