Making the rounds: Bob Kuhn’s retirement
Subject: Time to turn the page
Greetings my friends,
After finding myself at a crossroads, torn between my belief that I should work as long as I am able while at the same time reasoning that health and family are my highest priority, my scale has tipped in favor of reason. My retirement is effective this Friday, May 2nd.
I am proud of having served in 26 different positions ranging from firefighter to aviator, under the leadership of eight different Chiefs, across four Regions on Districts and in Supervisor and Regional Offices and at our National Headquarters over some 40 fire seasons and about 33 years total service.
I shall miss the family that took in a kid “on the edge” and trained him as a firefighter, showed him the value of education, and instilled in him a work ethic of serving humankind through public service for the greater good. This, one of the highest callings a person can answer, carried me through my career and will continue to carry me into my retirement years.
I thank you all for being a part of my rich and rewarding career, past and present: for your support and camaraderie, for your professionalism, for your shared expertise and your friendship.
