Directions
-
Register: Prior to your first entry into the chat
area, each user will need to click on the "register new user" link
and complete the registration page. Enter a "new nickname" as you
want it to appear in front of each message you post in the chat room. Then
enter a password twice. You need not enter your real email address, but you
must provide something to be allowed access.
-
Login: After completing the Registration, you may
enter the chat area. Prior to entering the chat area, you may observe how
many other users are currently chatting.
-
Sending a Message: Inside the chat area you will see
a text box at the lower bottom of your screen where you enter your message.
You can either click on the "post" button or hit your Enter key to
upload your message. You have the option of addressing your message to all
users or by using the drop down box, selecting to send a private message to
just one other user. Others will not see your private message.
-
Options: To the right of the message input area is a
link to "options" where you may modify how often your browser
refreshes, change font color, set new messages to appear at top or bottom,
and change your password.
-
Profile: Warning!
You may complete the "profile" as completely or little as you
wish. Use good judgment when entering information here! ALL users will be
able to access and view your profile. The chat area is currently open to any
and all users. The "pause" link allows you to stop your browser
from refreshing until you desire it to begin again.
-
Ralfs Link: There is a link to ralfschat where this
chat script was downloaded. It is a free chat script and may be downloaded
and used without charge.
-
Other Users: at the right hand side of the screen you
will see a list of other current users. You may click on their nickname and
view their "profile".
-
Help: Typing /help in the message text box will bring
up a small list of help options.
-
Logout: Please remember to use the Logout link when
departing the chat area. Although you may re-enter the room at any time, you
may be required to login again and other users may continue addressing you
or your comments, unaware you are no longer present.
Abuse Policy
-
The chat area may be monitored or reviewed by an
Administrator at any given time.
-
Cursing, swearing, flaming, or other abuse by users will not
be tolerated.
-
Abusive users may be kicked out of the room at any time as a
warning.
-
Continued abuse will result in users being permanently
banned and can result in a complaint being filed to their Internet Service
Provider (users are logged in with their name/password and IP address).
-
The privacy of users names and IP addresses is NOT
guaranteed in the Chat Room as it is with correspondence to the They Said It
page.
Known Issues:
-
Some users may experience "timeouts". There are
several reasons this may occur; your software settings, your ISP's settings,
slow connections, and inadequate bandwidth. There isn't much we can do about
some of the issues, but we are looking to so how we can adjust those
parameters we can.
-
Sometimes the text input screen which is in a frame at the
bottom does not appear. A couple clicks of the "refresh" or
"reload" buttons at the top of your browser usually takes care of
this issue.
