My wife works nights and I am constantly gone for 2 weeks at a time As we all are. Since we both have unpredictable schedules, what do you do for that unexpected night childcare problem?

Well, I was never had your exact situation, because I was never in an on-call position where you have almost no notice, but I did have to find child care for overnight a few times. So I am going to state the obvious and say you should line up as many options as you can think of…
Can your wife take a personal day with short notice if you need an extra day to line things up?
Can You find one or more families of friends of your kids that you trust, and are willing to host sleep overs at a moment’s notice?
Can you ask your parents or siblings if they are willing to come stay at your house for a week or two if they are available when you are called? Are they close enough to just come stay overnights?
Is there a licensed child care facility near your wife’s work that will take kids overnight? (That is what I ended up doing, dropping them off in the evening and picking them up in the morning.)
Is there a licensed or known babysitter that can stay at your house overnight?

You probably thought of all this already :-). Just make a list and when you have to go, start making calls, and good luck!
