Rob Hatten, who will teach the course, is a retired firefighter with 27 years of experience. He has a bachelor's in Fire Administration and Fire Protection Technology, and a master's in Education. Hatten is an instructor at Portland Community College and has taught fire science courses for the past 21 years. The course is offered during winter term at Eastern Oregon University. Registration deadline is December 22 and the first day of the course is January 8. Advanced Institute Credit is offered, and the course is NFPA accredited for 3 credits. Tuition is $285 and the course requires a $14 fee. Eastern Oregon University offers a baccalaureate degree in Fire Services Administration in partnership with Western Oregon University, Chemeketa Community College, and Portland Community College. Job applicants in fire are increasingly expecting candidates with degrees; a course of study in Fire Services demonstrates the wide-ranging skills and knowledge necessary to manage complex and crucial challenges.
