CAN WE NOW KNOW WHO THESE GOOD PEOPLE ARE?

The crewmembers involved in the crash of HT-742 on 10/1/06 were recognized this morning by the Mike Dietrich, IC for their heroic and quick actions at the scene. The commendation states "Whose prompt and courageous actions at the scene of the Helicopter accident were integral to stabilizing the situation and protecting two pilots from further injury."

During the burn over on Oct. 29, 2003, CNF Engine 39 crew went above and beyond the call of duty. They maneuvered CNF Engine 39 through the burning fire front and up to the location of downed Firefighter Steven Rucker to provide medical assistance.

Courage and Valor Award 2003 Doug McDonald, Novato Fire Department CA who repeatedly attempted to save Steve Rucker's life on the the Cedar Fire, San Diego Co, 10/29/03 The award is for a singular act of extraordinary courage and valor in the line of duty, however it recognizes all firefighters for their daily commitment to the core fire service values and to life safety.
2003 International Wildland Fire Safety Award, IAWF Nov, 2003 Martin (Marty) Alexander Marty is Senior Fire Behavior Research Officer, Natural Resources Canada, Canadian Forestry Service, Northern Forestry Centre; presented in Toronto, Canada. The award is made annually for a significant contribution to wildland firefighter safety, either directly on the fireline; or indirectly through management, cultural changes, or through wildland fire research. Stihl Heroism Award May, 2003 William R. Chrimes A firefighter and paramedic with the Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department, VA helped rescue 2 firefighters in Happy Camp, Calif. after their fire engine plunged more than 1,200 feet over an embankment.

The Horseshoe Bob Knob Award, 2003 awarded by Rax to the most ancient of R5 hotshot supts. Feb, 2003 Bob Bennett of Horseshoe Meadows IHC (SQF) Story behind it: 2002 season, Horseshoe Bob's crew buggie lost a dashboard knob, as these new crew buggies are wont to do. Rax (STF) , having recognized the weakness and having ordered extras, had a spare and gave it to Bob. Now, over beers that night, Bob swears Rax stole his knob and then gave it back, planting another one later - the "lost" one - under his buggie's seat so he could find it. Rax swears he was no thief. He simply was prepared and thus had a spare knob to offer...
