After seeing multiple failed pack tests, I find myself wondering why management continues to allow these employees to have a job? Not only are Engine Captains failing pack tests due to lack of physical fitness but AFEOS and Apprentices. Why is managment allowing these individuals the ability to pretend to be leaders, supervisors, and future leaders when they cant even complete step 1 of the conditions of hire?
Our number 1 objective as federal firefighters is firefighter and public safety. If it takes you 3+ times to pass the pack test do you realy think you are capable of providing safety for yourself, your crew and the people around you? Managment needs to step up and take action with these non producing, poor performing employees.
Awhile back someone posted about r5 firehire using illegal hiring practices; and the discussion about a sellers market came up. Northern California consistently has issues filling permanent positions, most blame it on location. I will agree with that to a point….. But maybe someone should look into the module leaders being poor supervisors and creating morale issues.
Any input from current, past BCs and above would be greatly appreciated.
