ES,

Welcome. I also have a Wildland FF out on the job. I thought I would go crazy the first time he went out because we had never been apart in our time of marriage. We will be married 15 years this July 2008. I cried myself silly until I was out with my parents one day.

We had been to walmart and was in the craft area when my dad saw me looking at the paint. He asked me if I could paint and of course I said no because I had never tried it before. He talked to my mom and before I knew it we had a buggy full of different paints, brushes, and a few books.

In the books, there were some ideas to practice. HINT: Put wax paper over the picture and go with it. I must say that it was time consuming and I practiced very little. It was very easy and the best part was if you messed up, you could wipe it off before it dried. And even if it dried you could go over it again.

We arrived back home and in one night I had painted a tube rose (sausages) jar medium size. HINT: I downsized the picture I wanted to paint and taped it to the inside of the jar to give me an idea of where I needed to paint. It was half way decent. Not perfect but I think I could sell it. I would never sell it because it was my first one I did and the look on my WFF’s face said it all. It surprised him as much as me and my parents.

It was very time consuming and before I knew it he was calling and we talked for as long as we could before he had to go. Sometimes him being gone is challenging BUT you know what they say, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.” I am proud of my man for doing what he does.

Be strong when he calls and do your best to hold your composure because if he hears you crying then he will worry about you and will be less safe on the job. When your WFF gets home and he sees that you are not worrying about him so much he will worry less about you.

I agree with Dehnert American and River.

I thank my parents for getting me started into painting and I’ve painted some nice things. Of course the more you do it the better you will get. Mine isn’t professional by no means but it gets my mind off my guy and I don’t worry or think of anything while I paint because I am trying to perfect my work in painting. I loose myself when I paint which is good for me.

Express yourself on paper. I kept a journal when my guy went out the first time and let me tell you, it helped me a lot until I received my paint supplies. Just keep busy and your WFF will be back before you know it.
