Wow, looks like Family Said could use a shot in the arm.
Sonja, Yes, as Ab says, PatRick is an outstanding outfit for your son to work with. I just saw their crews on the Elk Lake incident near Bend. Fine, professional looking group of young folks.
I just came off the road from touching base with our personnel on various fires. Currently, we have folks on the Tripod (Winthrop, WA), Black Crater (Sisters, OR), and the Maxwell (Mitchell, OR). If any of you have loved ones on those incidents and would like a current “update” give me a yell (post here). I’ll do what I can for you.
This is the first year that I have a child out fighting wildland fire. He’s working on a FS Engine crew out of Pinecrest, Calif. He called me this afternoon to assure me he was fine. He and his crew are staging in some little place outside of Elko, NV. They sure want to come “home” and fight fire. But, like all of us, they go where they’re told, when they’re told and do the best job they can. I’m not sure how I feel about having my son out on fires. It feels very disconcerting, particularly when I can still see him in my imagination riding his new tricycle on his third birthday. Where has the time gone?
