To All: I am pleased to announce we have received a commitment from a California Republican Congressman to take the lead on the development of a wildland firefighter series through either legislative or administrative means. Until the congressman and his staff have time to chat with OPM, the FS, Union etc., I’ll keep the name annonymous. A bill could be forthcoming as soon as Congress returns from recess. The classification issue is also included in HR 2858. However with limited time left in this congressional session the movement ofthat bill is difficult to predict. Any classification bill would be moved as the one in 2006 that passed the House of representatives but was lost by the Senate the following day…lost as in literally lost. More to follow.  Casey Judd, president, FWFSA

    Casey,

This is great news. Please let me know if there is anything that can be done to help on our side of things. We can help on the mapping side of things to to show wildfire, vs resources, and damages ect. Please keep us posted at WLF on how we can help in any way, shape, or form!

I would hope this Firefighter classification, would cover both Department of Agriculture and the DOI. or across the board for all federal fighters, no matter the agency.
