I  am a R5 Apprentice applicant. Last week a caller from fire hire called me about my application. She asked me of all the locations I selected on my application, what are the top 3 priority where I would like to work.  I let them know my priority, and I haven’t heard anything back. I am wondering if this was a trick question to see if I would pick the right Forest.  I think now I must have answered the question incorrectly since I haven’t heard back. Does anyone know why they are asking this question?  Is it a trick?  Why doesn’t the fire hire people just place me in one of the locations that I applied to?

If it was a trick question this seems unfair  and wondering who I can contact

The agency is a joke you should do yourself a favor and move one.

that doesnt seem like a trick question to me. When I got hired I dont ever think I got asked what my top choices were.

Good question. I got the same call and I haven’t heard anything. I’m sure they are just going through all the paperwork. Perhaps a senior member will chime in.

Human resources is heavily involved and all questions are scripted and approved so it is very unlikely it was a “trick question”.

I’m not directly involved in apprentice hiring so can’t tell you specifically what is going on, but things do move slowly. I very highly doubt the decision on whether or not to hire you had anything more to do with the hiring decision, other than trying to ensure you are placed where you would be happiest if you are placed (could have been considered as an alternate and were not needed at this time).

As far as Who Cares? Opinions and all that. The agency has issues but it is still a good place to work for some people, not a good match for others.

    Sorry this came out wrong

What I meant to say is I doubt where you picked had much to do with any hiring decision other than trying to place you where you wanted to be. most likely several locations were considering you and the question was aimed at seeing who should get you.

During Firehire, only 1 Forest is allowed to make you a job offer at a time. So, the Forests you put in for try to narrow down where would be a good fit for you with each Forests needs, and your preference. So, they were just deciding which Forest will offer, if you get to that stage. It’s a normal part of the process.
