Introduction & Rules
Welcome to the Wildlandfire.com Hotlist Forum

Please read the following carefully before posting or replying to any forum.  There are 4 forums and 1 sub-forum with applicable rules and guidelines as follows.  Members failing to follow the rules will lose their posting privileges.

Initial Attack:  this forum is for posting factual information on new fires or other emergency incidents.  Initial Attack is generally described as being within the first 24-48 hours of discovery.  Incidents that are contained or controlled will be removed, continuing incidents or fires exceeding initial attack will be moved to the Major Fires/Incidents forum.  The following rules strictly apply to this forum:

  1. Questions are not allowed.  Posts in this forum requesting updates, more info, or nuisance posts may result in the offender being permanently banned from posting.  Please use the Major Fires/Incidents for questions on specific fires or the General Discussion forum to ask about new fire information or updates to existing fires.
  2. All new registered users are initially granted permission to post new threads or reply to existing threads.
  3. Before starting a new thread insure the incident doesn't already exist.
  4. Use State and NWCG Unit Identifiers (available HERE) in the initial Thread Title Box, followed by the fire name if known, or geographic area if not.   Example: CA-LPF-DAY or CA-NEU-Alta Hill Area.
  5. Provide a general geographic landmark or cross street location.
  6. DO NOT post rumors or unverified events -- or scanner traffic messages -- containing references to fire shelter deployments, burnovers, aircraft down, vehicle rollovers, other accidents, or ordering a medivac helicopter or ambulance. Ideally we prefer an official fire press release or a media article that refers to a press release. We do NOT want firefighter family members to read here first; they should be notified as compassionately as possible by the proper authorities. If you are aware of a significant event and aren't sure what to do, you email abercrombie@wildlandfire.com for suggestions. We may be able to find out more behind the scenes. We will reply as soon as possible. Wildlandfire.com reserves the right to edit, move, or delete threads or messages at any time. Members that post inappropriate information may be put "under moderation ".

Questions Relating to Possible Fires, Initial Attack or Major Fires/Incidents:

1. Questions are welcomed here. This is the forum to ask questions about current Initial Attack threads including requests to clarify where, how big, any update, resource requests, etc.
Alternatively, you may have heard something on the scanner but not have complete information. Give the best information on location that you have when you ask your question. We discourage speculation, but often individuals have good partial information, but not enough to post to IA. Several examples include knowledge of a a strike team being dispatched to a location (Why") or lots of air ops communication on the scanner (What's going on?). If you ask the question, someone else may have the answer or can get it.
2. Before starting a new thread, insure the incident doesn't already exist.
3. In the initial Thread Title Box, use State and, if possible, NWCG Unit Identifiers (available HERE), followed by the fire name, if known, or geographic area. Example: CA-LPF-DAY or CA-NEU-Alta Hill Area.
4. DO NOT post rumors or unverified events -- or scanner traffic messages -- containing references to fire shelter deployments, burnovers, aircraft down, vehicle rollovers, other accidents, or ordering a medivac helicopter or ambulance.

Major Fires/Incidents: to update or ask for information on specific fires or other ongoing incidents.

General Discussion: for general fire related discussions, information, and questions.

  1. Most any fire related topic is ok here.  This is the forum to ask questions on current Initial Attack threads including requests to clarify where, how big, any update, resource requests, etc.
