milehighbar, I don't have an operational map with divisions, but this is what this evening's 209 said. Sounds like a pretty good day.
Significant events today: Light west and southwest winds benefited control efforts along the western and southwestern flanks of the fire. These winds similarly increased fire activity along the east and northeast flanks resulting in further acreage growth within the wilderness area east of the Buckhorn Road. A dozer line protecting the Peachtree community continued to hold as a backing fire was held in check. Work continued on an indirect line along the Camuesa Road in Division Q. A burnout firing operation continued with success in Division R. |

The Evacuation Order includes the Paradise Road Community, Santa Ynez Road Recreational Areas to Gibraltar Dam, Los Prietos Boys Camp, and the Rancho Oso Guest Ranch. An EVACUATION ORDER continues for the Peachtree Community. An EVACUATION WARNING remains in place for Happy Canyon Road north of Baseline Road, including the ranches between Lake Cachuma and McKinley Ridge. The Los Padres National Forest expanded closure is in effect. The closure area is approximately 649,000 acres and is between Hwy 166 in northern Santa Barbara County and Highway 33 and Matilija Canyon in Ventura County. Detailed information on the closure can be found at www.inciweb.org or at your local Forest Service Office. Current Situation: Last night the fire was less active due to the marine layer and continued to make occasional runs above the marine layer. The north and east flanks of the fire remain difficult to contain due to heavy fire activity and poor access. The west and southwest wind will help with control efforts along the western and southern flanks. Direct hand line and burning operations will continue in this area. The fire line at the head of Peachtree Canyon continues to hold. Engine crews, hand crews, and dozers will continue improving contingency lines and preparing for structure protection. A Cal-Fire base camp has been established at the Earl Warren Show Grounds. It will be the base camp for the “Front Country Support Group” or personnel and equipment that are currently preplanning for the Santa Barbara front communities on the south coast. This group will support current fire fighting resources that would be providing structure protection if the fire should threaten the above areas. Current Forest and Road Closures: Happy Canyon Road is closed at Los Padres National Forest boundary. Figueroa Mountain Road is closed at the Los Padres National Forest boundary. East Camino Cielo is closed between Painted Cave Road and Gibraltar Road due to fire equipment traffic. Paradise Road is within the Evacuation Order Area and is currently closed. Hwy 154 is closed to general traffic between Foothill Road and Hwy 246. Travelers driving on San Marcos Pass (Hwy 154) should tune to 1040 AM. Los Padres National Forest closure information and map are available at www.inciweb.org. Safety Message: Travelers using SR-154, please be cautious of firefighting equipment and personnel. Gibraltar Road, Painted Cave Road and East Camino Cielo residents are also asked to be cautious of firefighting equipment and personnel. Approved by Unified Incident Commanders: BILL MOLUMBY MARK SCHMITT California Incident Management Team 2 Santa Barbara County Fire Dept |

Per AA around 11:30 am, there was no fire activity visible from the air. No smoke, nothing. Hopefully, they can pound it with air support to get this thing corraled in.
CAL FIRE Team 8 is continuing to preplan the front country of Santa Barbara, from just west of Hwy 154 to the edge of Ventura County. Once the fire hits, units from the top, Zaca II, will transfer over to the CAL FIRE incident and comm. plan, if they do engage that side. Both Molumby and Team 8 met this morning at 10am to work out exactly how this will all work. Per discussions, the Zaca II will come down the front side of Santa Barbara before CAL FIRE engages. So the question is, will team 8 remain in SB or move to Ojai, when it eventually hits there?? |

Tonight's 209 at 1800:
Today's observed fire behavior Active burning occurred in the North, South and East portions of the fire today with sustained flame lengths of 50 feet and greater. Fire spread today was primarily backing down slope with occasional intense uphill runs when wind and topography are in alignment. CIIMT-5 (Dietrich) shadowed CIIMT-2 (Molumby) yesterday. Dietrich's team is expected to assume command of the Northern portion of the fire; which will be called the Richardson Zone. The Southern portion will be named the Live Oak Zone. The two teams are in close coordination. |
