I had overhead from a good friend working at the Route / Mad River Complex that staff that are leaving the incident are being demob’d with letters that are explaining that they have been exposed to marijuana to clear any personal from any failed drug tests.

Is this true, and does anyone have a picture or a scan of the letter?

Hey, I’m a reporter with Mother Jones Magazine and write a lot about the environmental issues associated with backcountry pot farming. I’d love to get a copy of this letter and interview you. I’m at jharkinson@motherjones.com and 415-321-1703.

It exists, and it’s ridiculous. The drug tests the USFS uses for cannabis have “Threshold limits’ set for every drug to rule out false positives. that means for cannabis, there is already an “allowable” level of THC that you would have to be over, to get it reported as a positive test. The USFS Doctors at Missoula have stated that to test positive for second hand smoke, you would have to be locked in a small room for 48 hours straight with 100 people smoking it. In other words, with the wind blowing, and other things mixed in wildland fire smoke, you cannot test positive just being around some burning outside, If someone tests positive under these tests, they have been smoking it, and repeatedly.
