Steve Tome passed away on Aug. 16th at the age of 61.  He managed the Ely, Minnesota Tanker Base on the Superior N.F. for many years retiring in 2011.  If you ever met him, you never forgot him.  Steve worked hard, played hard, had a gruff exterior and a keen mind.  He had a great sense of humor and kept you laughing at his many stories!  He was the most politically incorrect person most of us ever met but in some ways that was refreshing in today’s world.  You may have met Steve on a western fire acting as a Forest Aviation Officer or on an Aviation Safety Assistance Team.  His knowledge of aviation undoubtedly prevented incidents and accidents over the years.  RIP Steve, many beers will be lifted in your honor…
