Watching behind the scenes I’ve seen Forest Supervisors, with little regard to hiring the most qualified employees to hire women. I have nothing against the hiring of woman or minorities but you CAN NOT bypass qualified candidates (category 1) and go all the way to (category 3) poorly qualified people just to fill your hiring quota. If you have applied for fire jobs in California, and didn’t receive the job you wanted take it to ABQ! Because some people should get their ASSESS handed to them legally. (Looking at you Lassen, Modoc, Los Padre, Tahoe National Forest!) If you’re a white male. Or even just a male fight it all the WAY and make them PROVE why you weren’t hired. This is for all of you well qualified applicants.

Some of the Forest you listed did not have a Forest Supervisor present during fire hire. It was delegated to a line officer, i.e. District Ranger.

I agree with you 100% that the FS hiring practices in R5 have and are illegal. But, if we are going to rant about it, take it to the next level, or whatever we want to accomplish, please have your facts right.

I highly recommend the book “The Tinderbox” by Christopher Birchfield. For people that are unfamiliar, it will be an eye opener.

I’m not Fire but I work for another FS department and for this seaon I got a job offer over the phone, then I get this from the individual hiring me.

“Now even tho I offered you the job things can change, there is a weird political climate going on in the FS. But if things go as they should, you will recieve mail/email for a tentative offer.

I have never had someone tell me there is a weird political climate going on in the hiring system. The first thing I thought was they are probably, deliberately screwing with the hiring quotas.

    So, I shall see.

Let me be the second one to tell you. There is a weird political climate going on in the FS.
