Looking to get back into the fed fire world, but just hit 38 years old.  Puts me out of the app process.  However, reading the job posting it says one can qualify if they have sufficient fire experience.  How much time is experience?  Been on the shots for 3 years.  Been crewboss of a municipal T2IA for 4 years.  Got some quals but abit behind.  Is it possible to bypass or get a waiver for primary positions?  Or am I stuck with the secondary positions.  Thank you for reading and any help is appreciated.

You are out of luck, unless you have previous time in a primary fire position with the feds. If not, you have busted the age limit so you are limited to secondary fire positions (assuming you are not a vet).

90 days of online the experience is what most apps look for. Unless you have Previous primary time (perm) before age 37 you will not qualify for primary jobs because of the 20 year retirement rule.

Previous time must be as a permanent employee. Temp time doesn’t count. A lot of other jobs in forest service you can look at. There are some some prevention, dispatch and fuels positions that are secondary firefighter retirement. Over 37 rules don’t apply to these positions.
