While I was on the lucky canyon fire in the Los Padres I improvised a shower from the 5 gallon drinking water containers. I took the bladders out of the boxes and hung them in the mesquite, poked holes in the bottom, and  voila! Instant shower! It was an idea worked great until the supers found out. They always could spoil a good time. Right, Gallegos???

Took a shower in the Malibu Civic Center parking lot with the reel line. The showers at camp had a sign that said”Chief Officers Only” So, back out to the parking lot, strip down to our whity tighities and shower.

I have been on hotshot crews 27 yrs and have never seen a firecamp shower unit say CHIEF OFFICERS ONLY. I guess thats what you get on the countyor the municipal side. I have seen a sign say INMATES ONLY FROM 800-2130 or something like that. My advice if you ever see a sign like that again.. Just ignore it and go take your shower.

My suggestion is try sucking it up and just go without the shower until you get back in fire camp… Unless you have a valid medical reason that you should be communicating to your supervisor. Not only is it not fair to your fellow firefighters but if you are using cubies you are probably spiked out and those cubies were flown in which is not inly exposure to a pilot but cost a lot of money to get it there. My advice is… Tough it out and do away with the $ 500.00 showers.
