After seeing multiple failed pack tests, I find myself wondering why management continues to allow these employees to have a job? Not only are Engine Captains failing pack tests due to lack of physical fitness but AFEOS and Apprentices. Why is managment allowing these individuals the ability to pretend to be leaders, supervisors, and future leaders when they cant even…

Watching behind the scenes I've seen Forest Supervisors, with little regard to hiring the most qualified employees to hire women. I have nothing against the hiring of woman or minorities but you CAN NOT bypass qualified candidates (category 1) and go all the way to (category 3) poorly qualified people just to fill your hiring quota. If you have applied…

Does anyone know if the recent federal hiring freeze will affect the wildland firefighter apprentice hiring? I know that seasonal firefighters will be exempt from the order but I've read nothing so far about the apprenticeship. Has anyone heard anything? Thank you and be safe out there.

Hello all....we have been having discussions in state about "MAYDAY" procedures, guidelines, how to announce, etc.....  Has there been any guidelines set forth, protocols put into place elsewhere?  Would love to go into this next discussion phase with an understanding from across the field and nation.  I read a piece in Wildfire Today about the "YolO" rather than MAYDAY.

A fire that burns out of control can dangerously threaten populations, put humans and structures at risk, and decimate large amounts of national wildland. But that’s not to say that there are no marked benefits to having regular wildland fires that are well controlled. In fact, when properly monitored, prescribed, and contained, these fires can act as a fuel treatment.…
