I had overhead from a good friend working at the Route / Mad River Complex that staff that are leaving the incident are being demob'd with letters that are explaining that they have been exposed to marijuana to clear any personal from any failed drug tests. Is this true, and does anyone have a picture or a scan of the…

This is a very interesting blog that provides detailed meteorological interpretation about the Twisp surface winds. I'm curious what WLF.com Fire Met users have to say about this particular blog. http://cliffmass.blogspot.com/2015/08/was-wildfire-evolution-that-killed.html

HR 3363 was introduced  at the begining of the month but hasn't got much conversation due to active fires and the recent tragedies. It is about time for recognition for the job we do. In the eyes of the public, cooperators and ourselves we are firefighters but too upper management we are just range or forestry techs( unless LODD ).…

While I was on the lucky canyon fire in the Los Padres I improvised a shower from the 5 gallon drinking water containers. I took the bladders out of the boxes and hung them in the mesquite, poked holes in the bottom, and  voila! Instant shower! It was an idea worked great until the supers found out. They always could spoil a…

The DOI is implementing blood-testing of its firefighters, in a phased-in approach. Other tests include vision, hearing, heart, weight, breathing, etc. Firefighters are getting disqualified for many reasons, mainly because of what they revealed on the initial written exam. The judging process is described here: https://www.nifc.gov/medical_standards/ However, the written standards aren’t available there. You have to request a copy of…
