Not that long ago, most every station (CDF) had a device usually mounted to the floor of the ap bay, that would hold all the hand tools for sharpening. All the ones I remember were “home made”, from a piece of 6″ x 1 1/2″ channel iron about 18″ long. It had various notches cut into the channel and screw clamps to hold the tools This device was invented by Fire Captain Newman and bears his name. He worked in HUU probably in the mid 70’s. It is still referenced in the 4300 manual but no one seems to know what it is. I am looking for any information about the device or Captain Newman, photos, or the actual tool.

I do remember them while I was working for CDF in the 80’s but my big yellow
McLeod did not fit on it!! I will ask a friend of mine if he remembers any info on it. Are you trying to find one??

If I could, but all I really need is photos or measured drawings.

I have one at my Station, I also have the 1190 manuals that demonstrate its use, I can email you some photos if you would like.

That would be fabulous, and a huge benfit. Not wishing to task you further, but you wouldn’t happen to have the 1190 and 1191 scaned you you ?
